Poonya ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("App").
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account Information: When you create an account or sign in, we collect your email address, display name, and password (stored securely). If you use Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email from those providers.
- Profile Information: Your profile picture or avatar selection, notification preferences, and daily goal settings.
- User-Generated Content: Habits you create, custom quotes you add, and messages you send in group chats.
Information Collected Automatically
- Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system version, and app version to improve compatibility and troubleshoot issues.
- Usage Data: We collect information about how you use the App, including which features you use and when, to improve our services.
Information from Third-Party Services
- Firebase/Google: We use Firebase for authentication, data storage (Firestore), and cloud functions. Firebase's privacy policy applies: Firebase Privacy.
- Sign in with Apple / Google: When you use these sign-in options, we receive the information you choose to share (e.g., name, email) according to your provider's permissions.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App;
- Authenticate your account and manage your profile;
- Store and sync your habits, quotes, goals, and group data;
- Send you transactional emails (e.g., verification codes, password reset);
- Send you optional notifications (e.g., daily quote reminders) if you enable them;
- Process in-app purchases and verify purchases with Apple;
- Support group invitations and collaboration features;
- Enforce our Community Guidelines and moderate reported content (see Section 4A below);
- Respond to your requests and support inquiries;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. Data Storage and Security
- Your data is stored on Firebase (Google Cloud). We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information.
- Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. We do not have access to your password.
- We use HTTPS and secure authentication methods (including Sign in with Apple and Google) where available.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: With trusted third parties who assist us (e.g., Firebase, email delivery services) under contractual obligations to protect your data;
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect our rights and safety;
- With Your Consent: When you explicitly agree (e.g., sharing group invitations or progress with other users);
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the same privacy protections.
4A. Content Moderation and Community Safety
Poonya includes group chat features where users can share messages with other group members. To maintain a safe and respectful community, we implement the following moderation practices:
- Reporting: Any group member may report a message they believe violates our Community Guidelines. When a report is submitted, a snapshot of the reported message and a small number of surrounding messages (for context) is captured and stored as part of the report record.
- Review: Poonya staff may review reported content and the associated context snapshot to determine whether a violation has occurred. Staff do not have the ability to browse or read group chat messages that have not been reported.
- Actions: Based on the review, we may remove the reported content and post a system notice in the group informing members that a message was removed for violating Community Guidelines. In serious or repeated cases, the offending user's account may be suspended.
- Evidence Retention: Report records, including the context snapshot, are retained for safety, legal compliance, and dispute resolution purposes, even if the original messages are later deleted.
- No Proactive Monitoring: We do not proactively monitor, scan, or read private group messages. Moderation review occurs only in response to user-submitted reports.
5. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you;
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data;
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data (via the "Delete Data" option in the app for guest users, or by contacting us for full accounts);
- Opt-Out: Disable push notifications in your device settings or in the App's notification preferences;
- Portability: Request an export of your data in a portable format.

6. Children's Privacy
Poonya is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete that information.
7. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to such transfer. We take appropriate safeguards to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
8. Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data in accordance with our data retention practices, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes. Content moderation reports and associated evidence snapshots may be retained after account deletion for safety, legal compliance, and dispute resolution purposes.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
